We’re looking for flexible and reliable Catering Assistants and Kitchen Porters to support local schools in the Lancaster area. This is temporary, ad-hoc work based on each school’s daily requirements. You may be asked to work in different schools within the area, depending on demand. An Enhanced DBS is essential, and the Children’s Barred List check must be included. Previous catering or kitchen experience will be an advantage.
Position Overview
Job Titles: School Catering Assistants / Kitchen Porters
Location: Lancaster area
Type: Temporary, part-time, ad-hoc (during school term time)
Shifts: Monday to Friday, during school hours
Pay: starting from £12.21 p/hr
You will support the smooth running of school kitchens and dining areas. Duties may include basic food preparation, serving meals, washing up, cleaning kitchen spaces, and helping the wider catering team maintain high standards of hygiene and safety. Schools rely on staff who can adapt quickly and work well as part of a team, so a practical approach and good communication skills are important.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with food preparation and service
• Keep kitchen and dining areas clean and safe
• Wash and organise utensils and equipment
• Support the catering team with daily tasks
• Follow food hygiene and safety procedures
Requirements
• MUST have Enhanced DBS with Children’s Barred List check requested
• Previous catering, hospitality, or kitchen experience preferred
• Ability to work in a busy environment and follow instructions
• Reliable, flexible, and able to travel locally to different schools
• Must be eligible to live and work in the UK
