A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Animal Control Officer to join our busy Environment Response team on a full time basis, working 15 hours a week.
Amongst the many varied tasks, you will be responding to complaints of Stray and Dangerous Dogs, seizing the dogs and delivering them to kennels, we aim to provide the best stray dog service that we can. There is administration tasks associated with the role that requires you to maintain accurate daily records of work undertaken, journeys made, and results achieved. The post will also cover an array of animal issues in the Borough including tackling dog fouling, resolving animal licencing queries, undertaking animal licence inspections and promoting priorities through campaigns and projects. At all times to ensure that any actions taken or decisions made are compliant with the provisions of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
You will need a high degree of awareness around the risks associated with aggressive and dangerous animals, their handling and management. You will also liaise with outside agencies, contractors and partners with a view to forming and building strong relationships to assist you and the team towards their overall objectives. You will work alongside our full time Animal Control Officer, providing additional support when needed.

About You:
Essentially, we are looking for a driven individual with excellent customer service skills, attention to detail and a passion for animal welfare to join our award-winning team. You will need the ability to work well with others and be a strong team player. The successful candidate must have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and the willingness to be flexible in your approach to the role. You will also require a full UK driving licence and be comfortable lone working and safely handling dogs.
This is a varied and fast paced role ready for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate to take the service to the next level. A self-guided learning qualification is needed to become an animal licence inspector, but the council will be putting the successful applicant through this as a ‘fast track’ at the start of their appointment.
The successful candidate will be confident with computers and social media and be assertive with an eagerness to learn. More importantly, they must have a passion for animal welfare related issues and a real drive and willingness to make a difference and undertake their role to the best of their ability.
Selection Process:
