Summary
ROAD SAFETY OFFICER (GRANT FUNDED) - HIGHWAY DEVELOPMENT
The above posts exist within the Vale of Glamorgan’s Neighbourhood Services and Transport Department which comprises interlinked service areas of Neighbourhood Services Operations, Engineering and Transport. All of these service areas feature large, high profile, front-line operations delivering various functions directly to citizens of, and visitors to, the Vale of Glamorgan.
The Engineering team are responsible for all aspects of the Vale’s local highway network, including the responsibility for the delivery of National Standard Cycle Training to children and adults and Road Safety education, training and publicity promptly and efficiently to members of the public and other organisations as part of the Authority’s statutory duty of achieving national and local casualty reduction targets.

Pay Details:- Grade 5 – SCP 8 – 12 (£26,824 - £28,598 ) Pro rata based on part time hours, £13.90 - £14.82 Per Hour
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 28 hours / 39 weeks ( Term Time )
Main Place of Work:- Alps Depot in Wenvoe

Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Road Safety Team
We are seeking a suitably experienced and qualified Cycle Trainer / Road Safety Officer to work within the Highway Development & Traffic Section.
Key areas of responsibility will include: -
The post holder will be expected to deliver front line Road Safety education & National Standard Cycle Training to schools & other Vulnerable Groups. To include completion of course paperwork, Including registers, consent forms, client assessments, course reports and results.
To undertake risk assessments as appropriate to ensure all Cycle Training & Road Safety activities are delivered safely.
To report and record without delay any Safeguarding concerns to the appriopriate Safeguarding Officers.
To provide general support on Cycle Training & Road Safety matters as required.
To recruit, train, supervise and support volunteers to assist with the delivery of Cycle Training and Road Safety Education / Projects.
To maintain good communications with schools, teachers, pupils, parents, officers at all levels within the Council, external Organisations / Authorities and Members of public.
About you
You will need:
*5 G.C.S.E’s or equivalent.
*An accomplished cyclist, used to cycling in all road and traffic conditions.
*Happy to Work in all weathers
* Enthusiastic, flexible and good at working with a wide range of age groups to deliver road safety education.
* Well motivated and able to work in a team environment and support other team members with tasks as and when required.
*Experience of working with children, adults, vulnerable groups in a training or teaching environment.
* Ability to produce risk assessments and knowledge of health and safety to provide road safety projects safely.
*Ability to organise and completion of course paperwork, including registers, consent forms, client assessments, course reports and results.
*Ability to maintain Health and safety while undertaking cycle training and road safety projects / training with awareness of accidents and incident reporting procedures.
* Ability to drive / travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate.
* Ability to forge and work in partnership. Ability to work with a wide range of clients associated with road safety projects.
*Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a busy environment with changing priorities.
*Able to work on own initiative.
*Good verbal and communication skills.
* Computer literate - Ability to use Microsoft Word packages
