To provide support for a 11-year-old male child with Autism and Speech and Language difficulties.
We are looking to recruit two enthusiastic Support Workers for an energetic 10-year-old child who will need 2:1 support. Ideally, you will be creative, full of ideas, and passionate about working with children. This young boy has a beautiful nature and is a kind, caring and gentle child. He loves to be outdoors and visiting places like the woods, castles and National Trust venues; but equally loves some quieter times and activities.Overview of Role:
- Play & Engage: Help him enjoy his favourite activities in the community.
- Encourage Positive Behaviour: Support with developing social interaction with other children as he can struggles to maintain positive routines. He will need encouragement, guidance, and patience to help should he become frustrated, which can be due to his difficulties with communication.
- Supervision & Safety: Close supervision will always be needed as he has no danger awareness.
- Personal Care: You will be required to support this child will his personal care.
- Administration of Medication: There are no requirements for this role.
- Experience: Ideally you will have experience of supporting children with complex needs in a similar role, or possibly in a school setting.
- Flexibility & Availability: This role requires applicants who have some flexibility during the school holidays and would be available for one day midweek and one day at the weekend; some flexibility around which days.
- Empathy & Patience: You will need to build a positive bond to help him respond positively if needed when experiencing new environments.
The successful applicant must:
- Have a positive understanding about children who have disabilities
- Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs
- Have a high degree of initiative and be able to respond positively and sensitively to any changes in behaviour
- Be punctual and reliable as the child cannot be left unsupervised
- Be flexible
- Have a happy, positive and caring nature
- Respect confidentiality
The successful candidate will require an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS), cost to be met by employer.
