About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) to provide a proactive, high-quality service to survivors of domestic abuse assessed as being at high risk of serious harm.

As an IDVA, you will work directly with survivors to complete comprehensive risk and needs assessments, develop safety and support plans, and provide ongoing advocacy. You will act as a key point of contact, working within a multi-agency framework to reduce risk and improve safety outcomes.

This role involves close partnership working, including participation in MARAC, attendance at a One Stop Shop on a rota basis, and duty cover where required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality IDVA casework to survivors experiencing domestic and/or sexual violence
  • Carry out risk, needs and safety assessments and develop survivor-led support plans
  • Advocate on behalf of survivors with statutory, voluntary and community agencies
  • Coordinate risk management with partner agencies, including MARAC
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date case records
  • Contribute to team meetings, case reviews and service performance
  • Support monitoring, evaluation and reporting of service outcomes for commissioners
  • Work in line with safeguarding procedures for adults and children
  • Promote equality, diversity and human rights across all areas of practice
  • Attend One Stop Shop sessions and provide duty cover on a rota basis
About You

You will have:

  • Experience working with people affected by domestic and/or sexual abuse
  • Strong understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on women and children
  • Excellent knowledge of safeguarding adults and children
  • Experience of risk assessment, crisis management and safety planning
  • Confidence advising on housing options, civil remedies and criminal justice processes
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload and work effectively under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing
  • Strong IT skills for case recording, communication and research
  • A sensitive, non-judgemental and survivor-centred approach
Qualifications
  • IDVA qualification (SafeLives / Women's Aid / DAPA) is desirable
  • Candidates willing to undertake the qualification will also be considered
