-Job Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC engineer to join a large static campus in Hertfordshire. As the Shift HVAC engineer , you will be responsible for maintaining and servicing HVAC systems , chillers, FCU's and associated systems to ensure they remain fully operational and compliant with the relevant standards and regulations with the support of the wider engineering teams.
-Main Duties
Undertaking routine maintenance and servicing of HVAC systems including air handling units (AHUs), chillers, heat pumps, VAV/FCU units, ductwork, and controls
Conducting inspections, tests and performance checks to identify and rectify faults, inefficiencies and regulatory non‑conformances
Carry out repairs, component replacements
Maintaining accurate records of all work undertaken using client logbooks and CAFM system, including service reports, test certificates and parts usage
Ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, site-specific procedures and relevant HVAC standards (e.g. F-Gas, building regulations, local codes)
Manage your own workload and maintenance schedules to provide a high level of service and meet SLA targets
Support site teams with mechanical and HVAC system works as and when required, and liaise with contractors for
Participate in preventative maintenance planning and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and operating cost
-What we are looking for
Recognised HVAC or mechanical qualification (NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent) or apprenticeship completion
Experience in a similar HVAC role in a commercial, industrial or pharmaceutical environment desirable (typically 3+ years)
Relevant specialist certifications desirable where applicable (e.g. F-Gas certification, refrigeration ticket, boiler operator, refrigeration engineer qualifications)
Proven ability to fault find and repair HVAC plant and control systems, including BMS interfaces
Works well within a team and capable of collaborating with colleagues across engineering, facilities and safety functions
Strong problem-solving aptitude with attention to detail and a methodical approach to diagnostics and repairs
Ability to work without direct supervision and manage priorities across planned, preventive and reactive maintenance work
Professional and customer‑facing demeanour; able to deal directly with customers and stakeholders in a courteous and effective manner
Ability to complete and produce RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and to follow permit-to-work procedures
Ability to work to planned and scheduled work as well as respond to reactive workload and emergency callouts
Computer literate - competent in Microsoft Office and able to use CAFM systems; experience with BMS/HVAC controls software and mobile maintenance tools advantageous
