Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Education Welfare Officer. This role is vital in supporting children and families to overcome barriers to education and improve school attendance across Staffordshire.

Main Responsibilities
You have experience of school attendance work, who is able to:
  • Work collaboratively with central and district colleagues to manage a high caseload of children under statutory action, including the process towards S444 1 and S444 1A, School Attendance Orders, Education Supervision Orders, Section 19 Assessments, and tracing Children Missing Education.
  • Provide advice and share best practice between schools and trusts
  • Act as the named officer for allocated Staffordshire schools, delivering targeted support meetings.
  • Organise district meetings to share good practice with schools.
  • Support children to access education and work with internal and external partner agencies.
  • Advise on complex issues such as school attendance, access to education, part-time timetables, child employment, and entertainment licensing.

The Ideal Candidate
You will be:
  • Passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Skilled in building strong relationships with schools, families, and partner agencies.
  • Able to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
  • Knowledgeable about statutory responsibilities relating to school attendance and education access.

The role is based at The Old House in Lichfield, with travel to Stafford and across the district as required.
