Behaviour Mentor – Alternative Provision (SEMH) – Brent

Are you experienced in supporting young people with SEMH, SEBD or ASD needs? Do you have a background in managing challenging behaviour, small-group teaching, or providing 1:1 support? Do you hold Team Teach or MAPA training? If so, we would love to hear from you.

We are working with a specialist Alternative Provision in Brent that supports secondary-aged pupils who have been excluded, or are at risk of exclusion, from mainstream education. The school provides a highly personalised and therapeutic learning environment for young people with complex social, emotional and mental health needs.

The successful Behaviour Mentor will join a dedicated team in an outstanding setting with an international reputation for its expertise in special education, specialist curriculum design and high-quality resources.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:

Support secondary pupils (KS3–KS4) with SEMH, SEBD and challenging behaviour.

Build strong, positive relationships with young people and staff to encourage engagement and progress.

Use excellent behaviour management strategies to promote a calm, safe learning environment.

Deliver or cover lessons when required, supporting pupils across a range of subjects.

Work collaboratively with teachers to plan and deliver appropriate activities based on individual education plans.

Assess pupils with long- or short-term learning difficulties and support colleagues in identifying individual needs.

Liaise with external professionals, including social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists.

What We’re Looking For

Experience working with young people with SEMH, EBD or mental health needs.

Strong understanding of SEN and behaviour support within an Alternative Provision or special school environment.

Confident behaviour management skills.

Experience working with secondary-aged pupils.

Classroom experience and the ability to teach/cover a variety of lessons.

Team Teach / MAPA training (desirable).

A current DBS on the Update Service.

The School Offers

A committed and enthusiastic staff team.

High-quality, ongoing professional development.

An exciting opportunity to help shape the culture and future of a thriving Alternative Provision.

A purposeful, supportive and nurturing environment where learning for all is central.

This is a full-time, long-term position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. If you can engage students positively and consistently, this role will be both rewarding and an excellent addition to your professional experience.
