The Estates Maintenance Multi-Skilled Technician is a key member of the Estates Maintenance Department at The Hillingdon Hospital site, responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all engineering, building, and utility systems that support the delivery of patient care.

The post holder will undertake a wide range of reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks across mechanical, electrical, and building-fabric disciplines, ensuring all work is completed in accordance with statutory regulations, Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), Joint Service Publication (JSP 375), and Trust policies.

As the first point of response for Estates-related maintenance requests, the post holder will be expected to diagnose, repair, and resolve faults quickly and safely across systems such as heating, domestic hot and cold water, electrical distribution, pressure systems, steam boilers, and condensate return systems.

They will also carry out planned inspection, servicing, and compliance testing to ensure the Trust maintains full operational resilience and statutory compliance.

The role includes the operation and monitoring of the Building Management System (BMS) — such as Trend — to observe plant performance, adjust control parameters within agreed limits, and respond to system alarms to support energy efficiency and environmental control.

The post holder will be formally appointed as a Competent Person (CP) under relevant engineering disciplines as defined by HTM and JSP guidance and will be expected to work in accordance with the Trust’s Permit-to-Work and Authorisation frameworks.

In addition to normal working hours, the post holder will participate in the Estates On-Call Rota, providing out-of-hours technical support and attending site when required to maintain the safety and functionality of the hospital’s engineering services.

This is a practical, hands-on role requiring a multi-skilled technician with sound engineering knowledge, strong problem-solving ability, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant, and patient-focused hospital environment.
