Summary

Wrexham University is seeking an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and academically accomplished Lecturer in Renewable Energy Engineering to join our expanding Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with strong expertise in renewable and sustainable energy systems particularly those with an electrical engineering focus and emerging knowledge of hydrogen technologies to contribute to our teaching, research, and industry-engaged activities.

About the Role

As Lecturer in Renewable Energy Engineering, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of engineers who will lead the transition to net-zero. You will deliver high-quality teaching across modules related to renewable energy, electrical power systems, energy conversion, energy storage, smart grids, and future technologies. You will contribute to curriculum development and ensure our programmes remain aligned with the evolving needs of industry, government, and the wider energy sector.

You will also be expected to undertake impactful research and scholarly activity, developing projects and collaborations in areas such as hydrogen innovation, decarbonisation, smart energy networks, and sustainable power infrastructures. The successful candidate will be supported to secure external funding, publish high-quality research outputs, and develop partnerships with academic, industrial, and international collaborators.

This role also includes opportunities to contribute to international and CPD provision, engage with industry, support student recruitment, and play an active part in enhancing the overall student experience.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a candidate with:

A strong academic and practical background in renewable energy engineering, with emphasis on electrical systems, power generation, energy conversion, smart grids, and energy storage.
Developing or applied knowledge of hydrogen energy systems, fuel cells, and hydrogen integration within renewable infrastructures.
The ability to teach across core and specialist engineering modules and contribute to the wider Faculty where appropriate.
A commitment to delivering engaging, inclusive, and industry-relevant teaching.
Evidence of research activity or the potential to develop a strong research profile, including collaboration and publication.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
A doctorate in a relevant discipline (or progress towards one) is essential, along with a commitment to achieving Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy if not already held.

Why Join Us?

Wrexham University is strongly committed to sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the development of a resilient green workforce for Wales and beyond. Our Engineering provision continues to invest in cutting-edge facilities within the CanfodAu – Centre of Engineering & Innovation, offering an outstanding environment for both teaching and research.

You will join a supportive, collaborative Faculty that values innovation, professional development, and high-quality student experiences. As part of our commitment to academic excellence, you will also have opportunities to contribute to Transnational Education (TNE), commercial activities, and industry-led initiatives that extend the impact of your work.
