Summary

Veterinary Surgeon (Surgical) – Portsmouth

• Salary up to £80,000 DOE with a highly competitive benefits package
• Access to advanced facilities, including brand-new CT and a fully equipped surgical suite
• Full support and funding for surgical certificates and ongoing professional development
• Opportunity to perform advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures alongside specialist surgeons
• Flexible working patterns with future twilight rota to support work–life balance

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for surgery to join a progressive, independent small animal practice in Portsmouth. This forward-thinking team is redefining what is possible in first opinion and referral-level care, combining cutting-edge facilities with a genuinely supportive, collaborative culture.

This thriving practice boasts brand-new CT facilities, a fully equipped surgical suite, and the capability to perform regenerative medicine and complex procedures in-house. Following an exciting recent expansion, the practice has launched a dedicated cat, rabbit, and exotic clinic, doubling its clinical space and opening the door to outstanding standards of patient care and professional development.

The team is made up of highly skilled RVNs, a dedicated reception team, and experienced clinicians who value collaboration and knowledge sharing. The successful candidate will be supported to develop their clinical interests, with full encouragement and funding for certificates and further qualifications.

The role would suit a Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in surgery, whether soft tissue or orthopaedics. Applications are welcomed from vets actively working towards, or keen to pursue, a surgical certificate, with full support provided. Working alongside an experienced practice owner with a special interest in surgery, the Veterinary Surgeon will have the opportunity to help build and shape an advanced surgical caseload. The role includes performing complex procedures such as CBLO, TPLO, laryngeal tie-backs and spinal surgery, with regular support from a visiting Orthopaedic Diplomate and European Specialist.

The practice offers a newly expanded, state-of-the-art working environment, including dedicated exotic wards, overnight patient suites and advanced surgical and diagnostic equipment designed to support clinical excellence.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years’ post-graduation experience, be confident with routine surgical procedures, and enjoy working in a dynamic and progressive clinical setting. Future plans include the introduction of a “twilight vet” rota, supporting excellent work-life balance while maintaining extended care services until 11pm, with longer-term ambitions to bring out-of-hours provision back in-house.

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing, well-resourced practice that is actively shaping the future of small animal care, where clinical expertise, ideas and enthusiasm are genuinely valued.
