Evenlode Primary School is a large, friendly, two-site primary school. This appointment may suit a full-time caretaker covering both sites (30 hours), or a job share arrangement (e.g., 20 hours on the main site and 10 hours in the nursery).
We are looking for a reliable, proactive and committed caretaker to play a key role in ensuring our school is safe, secure and well maintained. You will support the smooth running of the premises, contribute to the health and safety of pupils and staff, and help create an environment where learning can thrive.
About the Role
The caretaker is responsible for:
Opening and securing the school sites at agreed times, including occasional evenings or weekends.
Ensuring the safety and security of buildings, acting as a main key holder and responding to emergencies.
Monitoring heating, lighting and water systems, checking meters, and ensuring plant rooms are safe and well maintained.
Maintaining the cleanliness, tidiness and general presentation of the school buildings and surrounding areas.
Undertaking routine maintenance, minor repairs and basic DIY tasks.
Supporting the safe movement of equipment and furniture, and assisting with deliveries.
Maintaining clear, safe access routes around the school, especially during adverse weather.
Supporting contractors on site and reporting any concerns to the Headteacher.
Keeping basic records such as checks, logs and health and safety documentation.
Helping prepare school spaces for events or activities when required.
Grounds maintenance support is already in place; however, you will help ensure external areas remain tidy, safe and free from hazards.
What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will:
Be reliable, flexible and capable of working independently across both sites.
Have good practical skills for maintenance, repairs and general caretaking tasks.
Take pride in keeping the school safe, clean and welcoming.
Demonstrate good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Be confident in following health and safety procedures.
Communicate effectively with staff, contractors and the wider school community.
Full training will be provided where required.
