Female Personal Assistant needed in North Tottenham (N17)
Weekly Hours: 15 hours
Work Schedule: Monday, 10am-2pm, Friday 10am-2pm and Saturday 11am-3pm. The work pattern is negotiable.
Location: North Tottenham N17 postcode area
Hourly Rate: £17.03 (before tax)
Start Date: As soon as possible
We require a Personal Assistant to look after our elderly mother, who has Alzheimer’s disease, to provide cover for family members who currently provide round-the-clock care.
The Patient has a complex medical history and requires either an experienced carer or someone who feels confident managing a person who may present with challenging behaviour. Much of this behaviour can be pre-empted by being proactive and engaging the Patient in simple activities. As such, this role could also suit a dynamic, creative individual who does not have direct experience of care work. Turkish language skills would be desirable.
Please note: the role can involve physical care and is not suitable for individuals who are unable to support the Patient with dressing and washing, as well as pushing the Patient in a wheelchair.
You will have the opportunity to train within the STrAtegies for RelaTives (START) programme. This is an eight-session, manualised intervention that supports the development of coping strategies for carers of people with dementia.
Job Description
You will be supervised by the Main Carer of the Patient and will be required to look after the Patient in their home. Typical duties of the role will include:
• Monitoring the health of the Patient and reporting any concerns, changes in behaviour, or presence of symptoms to the Main Carer.
• Accompanying the Patient and family when attending medical appointments.
• Preparing food and feeding or assisting the Patient when eating.
• Assisting the Patient when using the toilet and bathroom.
• Keeping the Patient company.
• Taking the Patient to the local park or other suitable activities in the borough.
• Encouraging the Patient to exercise outdoors or indoors.
• Carrying out suitable activities in the home to occupy and engage the Patient.
Further Information and Requirements
• The carer will be required to work an additional 10 hours per week for two weeks each year to cover family holidays. This would amount to working 25 hours per week for those two weeks only.
• You must respect the privacy of the Patient and their family. You must maintain a professional approach and not divulge any information gained during your employment, such as health conditions, finances, or personal circumstances.
• We expect the carer to respect personal possessions and to use any equipment only after being trained.
• The carer is required to update the Main Carer with any changes in their own health that may affect the Patient’s health, wellbeing, or safety.
• You are required to have the right to work in the UK
• You will work within a work contract and will be entitled to sick pay and holiday pay. We welcome self-employed applicants also.
