Job Purpose
To provide high-quality early years education and care in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted expectations. The practitioner will create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive. Practitioners will contribute to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of learning opportunities while promoting children’s welfare, safeguarding, and development.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare and Learning
• Deliver the EYFS statutory framework through developmentally appropriate activities.
• Observe, assess, and record children’s progress using formative and summative assessment tools.
• Plan individual and group activities that meet children's interests and next steps.
• Support children’s personal, social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
• Promote inclusive practice that values diversity and meets the needs of children with SEND.
• Foster secure, nurturing attachments with key children and their families.
Safeguarding and Welfare
• Prioritise children's well-being, acting in accordance with the nursery’s Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.
• Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Understand and follow Keeping Children Safe in Education, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and local safeguarding protocols.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records related to accidents, incidents, and concerns.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
• Ensure a safe and clean environment in line with health and safety legislation and nursery policy.
• Conduct daily risk assessments for both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Follow infection control procedures and support children’s personal care routines (nappy changing, toileting, feeding).
• Promote healthy eating and good hygiene practices during meal and snack times.
Teamwork and Communication
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, sharing knowledge and supporting one another.
• Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and supervision meetings.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and carers.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times in line with GDPR and nursery policy.
General Duties
• Maintain required staff-to-child ratios in accordance with the EYFS.
• Support children during transitions, including settling in, moving between rooms, and starting school.
• Reflect on practice and contribute to ongoing self-evaluation and improvement.
• Promote the nursery's ethos and values in every interaction with children, parents, and colleagues.
