Summary
Senior Power Systems Engineer
Nationwide (Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, London, Manchester, Reading, or Remote)
Salary: £52,000 – £65,750 + £4,560 allowance + travel allowance
Category: Electrical Engineering | Full Time
A new opportunity has become available for a Senior Power Systems Engineer to join a growing and highly specialised HV engineering team. This role offers full flexibility to be based from any UK office or work predominantly remotely, while still collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across a wide range of high-profile infrastructure and mission-critical projects in the UK and Europe.
You’ll join a technically strong, supportive, and well-connected group of engineers who work across major programmes in Infrastructure, Data Centres, and other mission-critical environments. The team prides itself on technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and delivering robust, resilient, and future-proof power systems design for complex, high-demand facilities.
The Role
You will be responsible for power systems analysis and design across HV, MV, and LV networks, providing technical expertise on electrical load assessments, resilience modelling, utility connections, substation design, renewable integration, and protection studies. This is a key role supporting the planning, design, and delivery of both small and large-scale engineering projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
Delivering power systems analysis and design calculations for electrical infrastructure across HV, MV and LV
Producing design deliverables including specifications, schematics, drawings, schedules, and technical reports
Designing substations and points of connection from LV to HV, including load flow, short circuit, G5/5 harmonic analysis, and protection coordination studies
Carrying out earthing analysis including earth rise, touch and step potential studies
Supporting network stability assessments, resilience reviews and mitigation strategies
Working collaboratively with internal teams, clients, contractors and external partners
Managing workload planning, invoicing, WIP and forecasting for your projects
Providing guidance, mentoring and technical support to junior engineers and apprentices
About You
To thrive in this role, you will bring:
Proven experience as a Power Systems Engineer, HV Engineer, or similar technical discipline
Strong understanding of HV substation design, earthing systems, protection schemes, CT calculations, arc flash analysis and voltage rise assessments
Proficiency using relevant tools such as ETAP, Amtech/Trimble, EOM, Revit, BIM and electrical design CAD
Experience modelling LV and HV networks and performing advanced power systems studies (fault, load flow, transient, protection, harmonic compliance)
Ability to undertake G99/G5/5 assessments, harmonic studies and power quality analysis
Sound technical judgement and passion for robust and accurate power systems design
Effective communication skills and experience working directly with clients and project partners
A collaborative attitude, self-awareness and willingness to support team growth
Experience helping to mentor and develop early-career engineers
