The Opportunity
Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation of learners? Do you have the drive to lead a thriving department and nurture both staff and students? We are seeking an enthusiastic Curriculum Leader to join our supportive, learner-centred sixth form college, overseeing Business, Maths and Economics.
As our Curriculum Leader in the Sixth Form, you will lead a subject area, managing a team and shaping the curriculum to ensure our students get the best possible experience. You will work closely with the Principal of Sixth Form to guide your team, support their development, and drive performance across your courses.
You will have a hands-on role in developing and improving courses, planning lessons and schemes of work, and using data to track attendance, progress and achievement. You’ll also teach on a range of programmes, using creative approaches to engage students and support them to meet their goals. Alongside this, you’ll provide guidance on progression routes, help with UCAS applications, and support learners through tutorials and one-to-one meetings.
Part of your role involves line managing staff, helping them grow through coaching and performance reviews, and making sure teaching and learning stays at a high standard. You’ll take part in observations, quality reviews and course planning, and support recruitment and marketing activities such as open days and school events.
You will also get involved in organising enrichment and extra-curricular activities and may lead or support trips and visits. Whether you’re improving teaching quality, launching a new course, or planning timetables and resources, you’ll play a key part in keeping your curriculum area running smoothly and successfully.
About You
As Curriculum Leader, you will be responsible for the strategic development and day-to-day management of our Business, Maths and Economics provision. With over 400 learners enrolled across the subject areas and a team of 6 experienced staff, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our department
We’re looking for a confident and experienced candidate who can lead by example and inspire both staff and students. You’ll need to bring a minimum of three years’ proven success in leading courses that have delivered results above national averages. With solid experience of high-quality teaching across a range of levels for 16 to 19 year olds, you should be able to demonstrate a consistent track record of excellent outcomes, ideally supported by a recent formally judged lesson observation graded at 2 or better.
To succeed in this role, you must be able to teach A Level Economics or Business to a high standard, bringing subject expertise and a passion for delivering engaging, meaningful lessons. You’ll also need substantial experience in leading or managing staff, with the confidence and skill to support their development, manage performance and raise teaching standards across your team.
You’ll hold a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, along with a teaching qualification such as a PGCE, Cert Ed or Level 5 Teaching Diploma. GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above in English and maths are essential, as are assessor and/or verifier qualifications.
