Summary
I am a visually impaired young person who is energetic, curious, and eager to learn. I’m looking for a Personal Assistant to support me with tandem cycling, social and community activities, and some occasional practical help. Living independently is important to me — but so is enjoying life, learning, and thriving. I’m looking for someone who can support me to do exactly that.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General Practical, Reading and Outreach Support
Your support will help me take part in meaningful activities, learn new things, and build confidence. This may include:
Taking me to various appointments when needed
Reading stories to me
Supporting me to take part in social activities together
Encouraging new experiences and helping me stay active and engaged
I also enjoy going on rides on my tandem bicycle. It is desirable that you know how to ride a bicycle safely so that we can go on short trips together.
Communication and Social Support
As I am visually impaired, I rely on clear and consistent verbal communication. While my English is good and I attend mainstream school, I appreciate someone who is talkative, engaging, and easy to communicate with.
Key requirements include:
Excellent spoken English and strong communication skills
This is not a teaching role
Applicants from all backgrounds are welcome
Hours
Total: 4 hours per week
Shift pattern: Two 2-hour shifts over two days
Days: To be agreed upon together
About You
You are someone who is:
Open-minded, patient, and proactive
Fairly active and able to take initiative
Clear and confident in communication
Supportive of independence, growth, and helping a young person thrive
Interested?
If this sounds like you, I’d love to hear from you.
Successful candidates will be required to have PVG membership or be eligible to join the scheme.
How to apply:
Please email your interest in the position—quoting job reference FY BS—along with your CV and a cover letter to pajobs@lothiancil.org.uk.
