Hays Education are looking for experienced caretakers, site managers or maintenance staff to work in roles in schools across Sefton LA.
Your new role
Hays Education works closely with Primary, Secondary and SEND school settings across Sefton LA, supporting the recruitment of caretakers. The jobs we fill are a mix of full or part hours, and range in length from short and long-term temporary jobs to permanent positions. Whatever your needs are in terms of hours and locations, we can support you in finding a job that meets those needs.
Day to day, the job of a school caretaker includes:
- Opening and/ or closing the site securely
- Supporting the cleaning staff with duties throughout the school
- Litter picking/ ensuring refuse is stored and collected as required
- Testing fire alarms and ensuring Health & Safety processes are followed
- Ensuring heating and lighting systems are working correctly and are on at the appropriate times
- Porterage duties including supporting with the setting up/ clearing down of rooms for ad hoc meetings, assemblies, productions, exams etc.
- Mowing lawns and managing plants/ flowers in outdoor spaces
- Pitch maintenance
What you'll need to succeed
For school caretaker jobs you will:
- Have previous experience of key holding/ providing general maintenance support
- Have an awareness of using computers, as some schools use computerised systems for job allocation of jobs within the team
- Be confident in carrying out basic joinery, plumbing and decorating as required, and working with external contractors for larger jobs
- Be comfortable working closely with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations; certifications would be an advantage
- Complete an Enhanced DBS check
