Summary

Are you an experienced security professional ready to lead from the front?

We’re looking for a Senior Security Officer to join our team and help keep our campus community safe, supported and thriving.

About the role

This is an exciting leadership role at an international University in the City of Bath, ideal for an experienced security professional who is committed to supporting, guiding and protecting staff, students and visitors in a Higher Education setting.

The position is highly customer-focused, requiring you to lead a team of Security Officers while also taking charge during emergencies, welfare incidents, first aid situations, alarm activations and a range of critical events. You will be a visible, approachable presence across campus, helping to maintain a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for the entire University community.

You will supervise and motivate your team, provide regular briefings, handle performance and training needs, carry out incident investigations, support emergency services, preserve evidence, write accurate incident reports, be responsible for CCTV use, building access, patrols, key control, and assist University staff and students with urgent concerns. No two shifts are the same, and this varied, hands-on role allows you to make a real difference every day.

About You

You are required:

to demonstrate excellent communication expertise and be ready to provide support to a diverse international community with integrity and compassion
to have IT skills and be confident using reporting systems and software packages (training provided)
to demonstrate leadership qualities, good judgement, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations

To perform in this role you must also:

hold a full UK driving licence covering both manual and automatic vehicles
hold or have the readiness to acquire an SIA Door Supervisor licence
be First Aid at Work trained (or willing to undertake training)
be open to undertaking Mental Health First Aid training and any additional security-related accreditations as needed
*Please note: If you do not currently hold the First Aid at Work certification or an SIA licence, full training will be provided. We strongly encourage anyone interested in the role to apply.

Further Information

The position covers the main University campus and University buildings off site.

The basic working week is 36.5 hours + 2 hours contracted overtime, worked as part of a 24/7, 365-day, 12-hour rotating shift pattern with a 15% shift allowance.

During periods of staff shortage, you may be required to work with other Campus teams or cover alternative shifts.

The appointment will be made subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

Uniform and all relevant training (SIA, FAAW, MHFA, CCTV) will be provided.
