Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivatedDeputy Radiology Services Managerto join our Imaging team at [Trust Name]. The post holder will play a key role inradiation protection compliance (IR(ME)R and IRR), clinical governance, and service development, ensuring patient safety and adherence to statutory regulations. You will support strategic planning, workforce management, and quality improvement initiatives, while maintaining a strong focus on patient experience and Trust values.

• Deputise for the Radiology Service Managerin their absence, providing leadership and operational oversight for the Radiology Service Line.
• Workclosely with modality superintendentsto coordinate daily activities and ensure efficient, safe service delivery across all imaging modalities.
• Ensure compliance withradiation safety regulations (IR(ME)R and IRR), safeguarding patients and staff from harm when exposed to ionising radiation.
• Lead and engage inclinical governance processes, including audits, incident investigations, and implementation of quality improvement measures.
• Develop, review, and maintainTrust and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)to support safe and consistent practice.
• Manage delegated budgets and physical resources within Imaging, responding to unpredictable workloads and service demands.
• Support delivery of service performance indicators and national targets, including cancer pathways and RTT.
• Provide expert advice on imaging modalities and maintain up-to-date knowledge of imaging equipment and best practice standards.
• Represent the organisation at system, regional, and national levels regarding Radiology services.
• Ensure 10% of the job plan constitutes agreed clinical duties, maintaining professional competence and credibility.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.
A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
The Deputy Radiology Services Manager will provide operational and clinical leadership within the Radiology Service Line, deputising for the Radiology Service Manager and working closely with modality superintendents to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality imaging services across the Trust.
This role is pivotal in maintaining compliance with statutory regulations, particularlyradiation protection standards under IR(ME)R and IRR, and embedding robustclinical governance processes. The post holder will lead on audits, risk assessments, and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring patient safety and adherence to national and local guidelines.
They will manage delegated budgets and resources, contribute to strategic planning, and represent the organisation at system, regional, and national levels. The post holder will also develop and maintainTrust and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring consistent and safe practice across all imaging modalities.
The role includes 10% clinical duties to maintain professional competence and credibility. Occasional participation in seven-day working may be required by agreement, but the post holder will not normally participate in on-call working.

• Develop, review, and maintainTrust and departmental SOPsto support safe and consistent practice.
• Identify and manage risks within the department, performing risk assessments and implementing risk-reducing measures.
• Support delivery of service performance indicators and national targets, including cancer pathways and RTT.
• Provide expert advice on imaging modalities and maintain up-to-date knowledge of imaging equipment and best practice standards.
• Represent the organisation at internal, system, regional, and national meetings regarding Radiology services.
• Facilitate staff training and development, including mandatory radiation safety and governance training.
• Ensure compliance with infection control procedures and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
• Oversee analysis of critical incidents, near misses, and errors, implementing corrective and preventative measures.
• Contribute to policy development and review, ensuring alignment with national standards and Trust requirements.
• Maintain professional development and participate in agreed in-service or external training.
