Summary

Heathfield Primary and Nursery School is seeking enthusiastic, caring and proactive individuals to join our successful OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Play Team. As a Play Team Member, you will play a vital role in ensuring all children experience meaningful, active, creative and enjoyable play every lunchtime. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to children’s school experience and be part of an innovative, child-centred play programme.What You’ll DoAs part of the OPAL Play Team, you will:Work collaboratively with the play team to support all lunchtime tasks, both outdoors and in the dining hall.Facilitate high-quality, age-appropriate play opportunities and act as an ambassador for play.Work alongside the Play Coordinator to ensure every child has access to exciting and engaging play experiences.Supervise and support children during outdoor play, encouraging creative, active and inclusive play.Promote a safe play environment by assessing play areas daily for risks and communicating or implementing changes as needed.Assist with setting out, maintaining and packing away play equipment.Provide first aid to pupils when trained.Support pupils in the dining hall, including queuing, seating, opening packets, resolving disputes, and encouraging positive eating habits and hygiene.Clear spillages, manage waste and support the smooth running of dining hall routines.Clean, pack down and store dining hall furniture at the end of lunchtime and ensure the space is ready for afternoon learning.Offer care, guidance and support to pupils, promoting positive attitudes and behaviour.Contribute ideas to strengthen the play team’s practice and overall lunchtime provision.Attend team meetings and training as required, and support the induction of new team members.Promote and safeguard the welfare of children in line with school policies.Ideal CandidateWe are looking for someone who:Enjoys working with young people across the 4–11 age range.Has a positive, supportive attitude towards children of all abilities and backgrounds.Can confidently engage, guide and negotiate with children from Reception to Year 6.Is a strong team player: flexible, reliable, and committed to making play exceptional.Has a friendly, approachable, caring manner and can remain calm under pressure.Is practical, solution-focused and willing to try new things.Demonstrates good timekeeping and dependability.Why Join Us?Be part of a highly committed and forward-thinking OPAL team.Receive full training and ongoing professional support.Contribute to an exciting whole-school play transformation project.Make a real and lasting difference to children’s wellbeing, social development and enjoyment of school.Working Monday to Friday (Term time only) 1 hour and 25 minutes per day (lunch time).
