Summary

SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant – Rotherham

Please note: experience working with challenging behaviour is essential for this role.

We’re looking for a patient, caring and confident Specialist Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex needs across our warm and supportive Rotherham schools. If you’re someone who genuinely wants to make a difference to children with high needs, this could be a great next step for you.

What the Role Involves

As a Specialist TA, you’ll be working closely with pupils who have a range of physical, cognitive and sensory needs. Your day could include:

  • Supporting personalised learning programmes


  • Helping pupils access multi-sensory activities and structured routines


  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals


  • Offering communication support, mobility assistance and personal care


  • Encouraging social interaction, independence and life skills


  • Creating a calm, respectful learning environment


  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and families


    Who We’re Looking For

    We want to hear from someone who is genuinely passionate about SEND and understands the importance of patience, consistency and empathy.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Experience supporting students with PMLD or SLD (special school experience is a bonus)


    • A calm, confident and compassionate approach


    • The ability to work well as part of a team, and with families


    • A proactive attitude and a commitment to inclusive practice


    • Good awareness of safeguarding and professional boundaries


    • Up-to-date Moving & Handling training
