Summary

Neway International are seeking two Accommodation Officers (Housing) to join our client based with Newport City Council.

Location: John Frost Square, Newport, NP20 1PA
Hours: 37 per week
Start Date: 18 December 2025
Duration: Initially for 3 months, likely to be extended.
Work Pattern: 3–4 days in office and inspections, 1 day remote
Pay Rate: £15.83 PAYE / £20.49 Umbrella per hour

The Private Sector Initiatives Team plays a vital role in managing temporary, transitional, and settled housing solutions to respond to homelessness across Newport.

The Role
As an Accommodation Officer, you will assist the team with bookings for temporary accommodation and manage placements across council-provided housing. This role requires resilience, adaptability, and a proactive approach to delivering high-quality housing services. You will be expected to balance office-based duties with property inspections, safeguarding tenants, and ensuring compliance with council policies.

Key Responsibilities
Manage rent accounts, keeping debts to a minimum.

Safeguard tenants and identify support needs.

Oversee placements and movements of clients to maximise suitable accommodation.

Complete license agreements, occupational contracts, and housing benefit forms.

Provide duty cover in the office as required.

Travel throughout Newport to inspect properties (own transport required).

Candidate Requirements
Eligible to work in the UK.

Experience in housing services, ideally within homelessness or temporary accommodation.

Strong resilience and ability to work under pressure.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Ability to handle challenging situations constructively.

Own transport to travel between properties.

Working Environment
Based in Newport city centre at the Library in John Frost Square, this role involves both office-based and fieldwork duties. Hybrid working arrangements allow for one day of remote work per week.
