We employ around 1,200 staff and operate across eight premises, including our main hospital which spans eight floors with 234 beds, 10 state-of-the-art theatres, and a 13-bed Intensive Care Unit. Our Day Surgery Unit, situated on the 3rd floor of our main hospital at 20 Devonshire Place, provides expert care for patients undergoing day case procedures across a wide range of specialities including general surgery, ophthalmic, ENT, plastics, gynaecology, and orthopaedics. The unit is designed to support a safe and efficient patient journey, from admission to discharge, with a strong focus on comfort, dignity, and recovery. The Role: We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Healthcare Assistant (Band 3) to join our Day Surgery Unit at The London Clinic. We are particularly interested in candidates who have previous experience working in Day Surgery, A&E, or other fast-paced ward environments, where the ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure is essential. This is an excellent opportunity to build on your existing hospital experience while supporting the nursing and medical teams in delivering high standards of personalised care across a wide range of day case procedures. You will assist with the daily operation of the Day Surgery and Walk-in Walk-out areas, providing both clinical and administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the unit. The role requires a confident and adaptable individual with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Key Responsibilities Support nurses and consultants in preparing patients for surgery and recovery. Perform basic clinical observations and assist with routine procedures such as urinalysis, ECGs, phlebotomy, and wound dressings (once trained and competent). Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, maintaining accurate and timely documentation. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control. Act as a chaperone during procedures, supporting patients with professionalism and empathy. Support the team in maintaining stock levels and preparing rooms for new admissions. Skills and Experience: Proven experience working in a hospital setting, ideally within Day Surgery, A&E, or another fast-paced ward. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly. Confident in performing basic clinical tasks under supervision and motivated to develop further clinical skills. Strong organisational and IT skills, including familiarity with electronic patient systems. Reliable, flexible, and committed to delivering high-quality patient care.
