  • Week 1:Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 14:00
  • Week 2: Wednesday to Sunday, 14:00 to 22:00
  • Week 3: Monday to Tuesday, 14:00 to 22:00, and Friday to Sunday, 22:00 to 06:00
  • Week 4:Monday to Thursday, 22:00 to 06:00
  • £12.75 to £13.60 per hour, plus £189.64 per week shift allowance for unsocial hours, see rota above
  • 27 days of Holidays per year
  • Location is Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Hospital, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9WL

As a Shift Maintenance Assistant at Sodexo, we’re looking for someone who keeps things running smoothly, the one who knows how to solve problems, offer expert advice, and ensure the hospital estate operates at its best. As a Shift Maintenance Assistant at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Hospital, you'll be the go to expert for technical support and maintenance. You belong across equipment, building systems, and utility services.

What You’ll Do:

  • Perform basic plumbing tasks, including unblocking drains, fixing minor leaks, and maintaining taps, sinks, and toilets.
  • Carry out routine electrical and lighting duties such as replacing lamps, fitting plug tops, and maintaining light fittings and shades.
  • Complete general maintenance tasks including fitting door hardware, mounting signs and pictures, oiling/greasing equipment, and undertaking basic painting, decorating, and plastering.
  • Clean various areas and equipment, including high level brackets, overhangs, plant rooms, workshops, machinery, and entrance areas; remove debris as required.
  • Handle, repair, or arrange repairs for items like TVs and ward toasters, including transporting them between wards and repair services.
  • Respond to emergencies, analyse and report faults, commission new equipment, and carry out surveys or audits related to own work.
  • Communicate and collaborate with colleagues, provide routine information, support new starters, process timesheets, and organise daily workload.
  • Ensure safe use of personal equipment, follow hospital policies, and apply knowledge of procedures to resolve straightforward job related issues.

What You Bring:

  • Relevant experience or training, including safe use of tools and basic workshop safety.
  • Able to work independently and maintain good standards of productivity.
  • Willing to undertake further training and understand links between maintenance trades.
  • Mechanical aptitude with hand tools; able to carry out basic emergency repairs.
  • Effective communication and teamwork across different trades.
  • Self motivated, professional, and able to interact well with staff and the public.
  • Useful knowledge of other trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, joinery); maintenance experience preferred.
  • Able to communicate clearly and handle emotionally challenging situations.
