Summary

The Planning and Performance Directorate is at the heart of the City Council, helping us drive performance and understand how we can best meet the diverse needs of our residents and deliver effective services.

We are leading the use of data and technology to support the Council's work, exploring how improved data and technology can enhance our processes and make it easier for residents to access the support they need. The Performance and Insights Team champions a culture of better decisions using data, evidence and engagement across the city and the Council. The Performance and Insights team consists of over twenty analysts brought together from around the organisation with different backgrounds and skills to support services to deliver data-driven change.

What is the job role?

We are looking for a Data Analyst to join the Performance and Insights Team and support Coventry City Council’s journey to become a data‑led organisation. Using evidence and insight, you will help drive decisions and deliver services to our residents in a city proud of its diversity and history of peace and reconciliation.

This role will strengthen our understanding of Coventry’s diverse communities, including those from migrant backgrounds, and support the work of the Migration Team. The team delivers a range of initiatives to welcome, resettle and integrate people seeking safety in the UK through protected routes, including:

  • Leading on refugee resettlement and responding to future humanitarian or resettlement events, including supporting Afghan and British Nationals arriving under the ARAP and ACRS schemes
  • Responsibility for the Homes for Ukraine Programme, which has seen strong public support across Coventry
  • Delivering the Hong Kong BN(O) Welcome Programme, helping arrivals successfully settle in the UK

As Data Analyst you will support the Senior Business Intelligence and Insights Analyst to enable the organisation to better understand the local, regional and national landscape through intelligence, data and evidence. Key aspects of the role include:

  • Requirements Gathering – engaging with colleagues and partners to understand needs
  • Collaboration with Technical Teams – working closely to deliver effective solutions
  • Dashboard Development – creating clear, accessible visualisations of data
  • Data Analysis & Insight Generation – turning complex datasets into actionable intelligence

You will be joining a busy, innovative and forward thinking team where flexibility, passion and curiosity are essential. This is an opportunity to make a real impact by supporting newly arriving communities and helping them integrate into Coventry.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have:

  • Understanding of different methodological approaches to research and data collection, with an appreciation of when to apply differing methodologies accordingly. Some experience in survey design and analysis.
  • Experience of working with stakeholders and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external providers
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to deliver at pace where data and policy are continually evolving and manage deadlines/expectations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate data and evidence, tailoring to a range of audiences.
  • Desirable technical skills: Knowledge and application of Power BI, Python, R, SQL, Statistical Analysis
  • Experience of using: Power BI, MS excel to an advanced level.
