The Christie is pleased to be able to offer an opportunity for a suitably experienced individual to join the Haematology and Teenage and Young Adult Service (TYA) to take on a role as Quality Officer.
Based at the Withington site, you will be a valued member of the Haematology and TYA quality team and work alongside the Quality Manager. Your role will involve the document management, asset management, quality leadership and oversight within the TYA/Haematology Deptartment.
This post will work closely with and be supported by the Quality Manager, and Directorate Lead Nurse and will work alongside two Data Coordinators.
We are looking for a self-motivated, proactive individual who is able to work well independently but also as part of a team. You must have good attention to detail, you must ensure the completeness, accuracy and consistency of the work undertaken so that it meets the standards of quality expected within a leading Haematology centre.
You must be educated to degree level and be able to demonstrate excellent IT skills and a high level of competency in in all Microsoft packages, especially Excel. Although not essential, a science, mathematical or statistical related degree would be advantageous.
If you are educated to a degree level and have experience in working within clinical audit, information systems and quality management then you are the right person to consider joining the quality team within the Haematology and TYA directorate.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.
We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
The Christie haematology service acts as a tertiary referral centre for the management of patients with haematological malignancies and bone marrow failure. Inpatient haematology and transplant services for both adults and Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) patients are provided by the 31 bedded Palatine Treatment Ward, and the 4 bedded Withington Ward. Outpatient haematology services are provided by the Haematology and Transplant Day Unit (HTDU) and the ambulatory care facility. The Christie haematology service has grown extensively over the past few years with the development of new treatments and CAR T. Services are now delivered at 2 other trusts with plans to expand services closer to home further.
The directorate has a supportive and warm working culture where your contribution is valued. You will be joining a small quality team within the wider directorate focused on ensuring a high standard of patient care and experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Management and Improvement
Conduct the day-to-day management of the QMS including document management, audit management, change management and asset management.
Contributing to the development of the QMS, with a focus on electronic QMS solutions; such as QMS to streamline quality workstreams and CAPA management.
Support and lead as required on incident investigation and management, ensuring learning is shared and actions followed up appropriately.
Provide support in the preparation, facilitation of external audits /inspections/accreditation visit conducted within the programme.
Assist teams in developing CAPAs and tracking completion of actions following incidents, audits, changes in practice etc.
To assist teams in the review of documents and completion of audits as required by regulatory standards.
Prepare documents and agendas for monthly governance and operational meetings.
Communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders regarding quality improvement.
Requiring sensitive negotiation where necessary to ensure improvements are built into service delivery and are demonstrated in clinical outcomes.
To attend regular and ad hoc meetings including deputising for the Senior Quality Manager as required.
Contribute to the development of quality improvement plans and lead on quality improvement audits/projects as required.
Work collaboratively with the Senior Quality Manager to assist with the identification and meeting of quality objectives as set out by the annual quality report.
Contribute to the Network Services Divisions and Trust’s quality agenda in promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
In collaboration with the Senior Quality Manager recognise and act upon departures from legislative, quality management system requirements including failure to follow protocols and/or SOPs and incidents, errors or adverse events responding appropriately and escalating action as required.
Work in accordance with the Divisional standards for document control and change control providing support for the operational implementation of such processes as required
Information Management
Maintain precise and accurate quality management records that are ready for inspection by regulatory authorities/accreditation bodies and Sponsor.
Provide regular and ad hoc reports as required
Assist in ensuring that business continuity arrangements are in place and updated in the event of any disruptions to electronic systems
Update and Maintain databases relating to the Quality Management Framework.
Interact with Trust reporting systems – DCIQ, and other relevant reporting systems to evaluate quality findings.
Support the Senior Quality Manager in the analysis of intelligence to assess to the effectiveness of the Quality Management System
Support the Senior Quality Manager in providing oversight of the Data Manager and ensure data accuracy and completeness.
Ensure that all paper-based systems are maintained securely.
Continuing Professional Development and Education
Take responsibility for self-development through the appraisal system and work towards completing agreed personal development plan
Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as required and attend relevant training / study days.
Maintain and update knowledge of national developments in cellular therapy and transplant related regulatory and other relevant standards including but not limited to FACT JACIE and ensure there is feedback via the appropriate mechanisms.
Assist in the provision of training programs (including clinical education of nurses and staff development programs) to educate the team on the standards relevant to work conducted within the programme.
Provide training to staff in the use electronic quality management systems/ control systems software applications
