We have exciting opportunity in the Division of Neuroscience to join a multi-centre study to track disease progression in motor neurone disease (MND). The study will use high density surface EMG and will focus on the monitoring of patients being treated by toferson, an antisense oligonucleotide treatment for patients with a mutation in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene. The post will involve delivery of the study in Sheffield, performing high density surface EMG and analysing data using advanced analytics. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a passion for clinical research. Experience in human neurophysiology would be advantageous but all training will be provided.

The candidate will be based at the world-leading Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience and be part of the large MND clinical research team.

The project is led by Dr James Bashford (Kings College London), the local lead is Dr James Alix. Candidates are encouraged to contact Dr James Alix (j.alix@sheffield.ac.uk) to discuss the project prior to application.

Main duties and responsibilities

- Day-to-day running of the clinical research in Sheffield, adhering to the study protocol and Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
- Perform advanced surface EMG recordings on patients with motor neurone disease and collect additional data as required by the study protocol.
- Work independently and as part of a team to deliver the research objectives in line with the project outline
- Coordinate activities with the local PI and clinical research team and the lead centre (Kings College London).
- Assist in the writing of the project reports and publications.
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post
