Summary

Job Description

The Aberdeenshire Council Local Development plan Team is looking to appoint an enthusiastic officer to provide secondment cover to Autumn 2026. Aberdeenshire Council is at the forefront of thinking within Scotland on the new system of development planning in Scotland and the post provides invaluable transferrable experience on new style Local Development Plans.

In the period of employment, the focus of the team will be on the Calls for Ideas and Calls for Sites assessments. This will involve technical assessment of site bids, preparation of indicative recommendations, engagement with Key Agencies, other stakeholders, communities and elected members. There may also be a role to support local communities on the production of Local Place Plans, as required.

Details of the outputs and timetable for this work is presented in the Development Plan Scheme to be found at Process and Timescales - Development Plan Scheme - Aberdeenshire Council (https://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/planning/plans-and-policies/process-and-timescales/). This document provides a clear indication of the scope of the work that the team is committed to.

The team works closely together to explore and debate the issues that are arising from the new style of plan making that we are required to undertake. We are all new to the processes we are now following, and any inexperience can be countered by an inquiring mind and agile personality. Hybrid working is encouraged but with access to a team workspace within Woodhill House, Aberdeen. Aberdeenshire Council operates a system of flexi-time.

Fixed term for a period not exceeding 30/09/2026
