Hours: 16 per week (flexible rota, Monday–Saturday, occasional Sunday)

About the Client
Plymouth City Council’s Executive Office supports the Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor in delivering civic duties and ceremonial functions. The Civic Support team plays a vital role in upholding traditions, ensuring smooth event management, and maintaining the dignity of the Mayoralty.

The Role
As Macebearer/Chauffeur, you will provide ceremonial and practical support to the Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor at official engagements. This unique role combines driving responsibilities with ceremonial duties, ensuring civic events run smoothly and the Mayoralty is represented with professionalism and respect.

Key Responsibilities
Escort the Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor at civic events and engagements

Drive and maintain the long wheel-base civic car, ensuring safety and readiness

Safeguard and maintain civic regalia, robes, and insignia

Officiate at civic functions, acting as toastmaster when required

Conduct tours of the Council House and the Lord Mayor’s residence

Liaise with members of the public and dignitaries, ensuring positive engagement

Candidate Requirements
Essential:

Full UK driving licence with advanced driving standard

Understanding of the role of the Lord Mayor and civic officers

Experience supporting holders of public office or similar positions

Advanced driving skills and strong problem-solving ability

Excellent interpersonal skills and tact when dealing with the public and dignitaries

Desirable:

Experience as a chauffeur and/or toastmaster

First Aid Certificate

Knowledge of local history relating to the Lord Mayoralty and the Astor family (training provided)
