Are you driven to support young people who face barriers to their education? A specialised Pupil Referral Unit in Failsworth is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work with secondary-aged pupils who are unable to attend mainstream school. Students may present challenging behaviours, have social, emotional and mental health needs, or have been permanently excluded.
The Role
In this role, you will:
- Provide consistent support to pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
- Use effective behaviour management and de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm environment
- Encourage positive engagement with learning and daily routines
- Build strong, supportive relationships to help pupils regulate and succeed
- Assist teaching staff in creating tailored, purposeful learning experiences
- Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience and positive behaviour
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Is confident managing challenging behaviours
- Can remain calm, patient and firm when situations escalate
- Has experience in SEMH settings or brings transferable behaviour-support skills from roles such as youth work, care, sports coaching, mentoring or alternative provision
- Is committed, resilient and keen to help young people make progress
- Is open to a temporary role with the view to go permanent
