About the role
Join the UKCS Balfour Beatty Living Places team as an Operations Supervisor based in the East Sussex Council Highways Contract.
In this pivotal role, you’ll support the delivery of reactive maintenance works, ensuring our contractors and teams meet the highest standards of health, safety, and quality.
You’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners, using your expertise to help maintain and improve our highways infrastructure. This is an opportunity to make a real impact within a dynamic operational team, reporting directly to the Operations Manager and contributing to the success of our projects and the satisfaction of our clients.
What you'll be doing
Your accountabilities will be as follows:
- Supervising site activities and managing the allocation of people to work.
- Monitoring works to ensure completion to specification and quality standards.
- Supporting a culture of Zero Harm by embedding safety best practices and reporting observations.
- Liaising with Network teams for permitting and with Procurement for materials ordering.
- Conducting site audits to ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty Safe Systems of Work and processes.
- Assisting in the supervision of reactive works using both internal and supply chain resources.
- Ensuring all assigned sites meet governance and compliance requirements, including BMS Group Policy, QM-BIM field 360, UKCS Customer Focus First Strategy, Telematics, and NHSS standards.
Who we're looking for
We are looking for the following:
- A proactive team player with experience in highway maintenance, civil construction, and traffic management.
- Minimum qualifications and skills include:
- Full driving licence
- SSSTS
- NRSWA Supervisor
- Lantra 12D (M1/M2, M5, M6)
- CSCS card
- Experience using mobile devices
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness to learn and develop
- NVQ Level 3 (desirable)
- Experience in a similar field or role is essential, particularly in highway maintenance (routine & reactive), construction, and civil engineering contracting.
