Tyneside Foyer, Newcastle upon Tyne
We can’t offer a CoS for this role
Home, a place where you belong
At the Tyneside Foyer, we’re more than just a support service, we help young people take control of their futures. As our Support Worker, you’ll be part of a team that provides young people aged 16-25 with the guidance, stability, and encouragement they need to overcome challenges and gain independence. If you’re passionate about making a difference in young people’s lives, this is the role for you!
What’s in it for you?
• 34 days leave (including bank hols and a “me day” to use for whatever you fancy) increasing to 39, and time off for volunteering too!
• Health cash plan saving you from £1140 per annum. We’ll cover your costs (and kids if you have them) towards dental, optical, prescriptions, alternative therapies and lots more.
• Over 800 high street discounts on groceries, holidays and days out. Looking for a new phone, bike or car? Save money with us.
• We Grow Our Own colleagues (not literally of course!), when you’re ready for the next step in your career, you can grow with us!
• Colleagues really matter to us, that’s why we’re the 10th Best place in the UK for Wellbeing. Our tools and support help you when you need them.
What you’ll do
• Supporting young people, aged 16-25, who may be facing homelessness, mental health challenges, exploitation or substance abuse, helping them to develop the skills to live independently.
• Encouraging and empowering young people to achieve their goals, whether it’s finding stable housing, securing employment or building confidence.
• Helping with day to day takes such as budgeting, maintaining their tenancy and moving onto independent accommodation.
• Carrying out risk assessments, support planning, goal setting and regular reviews.
• Cuppas, chats and catch ups. Working alongside a supportive team you will take the time to build real connections with young people and guide them through life’s challenges.
Why join us
This is more than a job, it’s a place where you feel valued. You get great training, support from friendly colleagues and a chance to make a real difference every day. Be part of one of the UK’s top 10 Great Places to Work!
You have
• A passion for supporting young people to grow, develop and succeed
• Experience in care, youth work, or a similar setting, or a personal understanding of the challenges young people face
• The ability to work on your own initiative, remain calm under pressure and have a resilient approach
• A flexible understanding and personal approach to support, because every young person’s journey is unique
Stronger together
We do our best work when we’re ourselves. That’s why inclusion, wellbeing, and our diversity networks help make Home Group a great place to work!
The practical bits
• Due to our service being regulated by Ofsted you must have experience supporting young people.
• You’ll work a four-week rolling rota, a mixture of weekdays and weekends.
• Where we’re flexible with you, we do need to meet the needs of our customers. That may mean adapting your start or finishing times on occasion.
• Able to use technology to update support plans, complete online learning and to collaborate with colleagues.
• You’ll need an Enhanced DBS check done and we pay for that.
