Summary
To implement a good standard of cleanliness and hygiene within the work place and to promote a safe environment for all our residents, staff and visitors to the Nursing Home. Cleaners are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the nursing home in which they work by performing various cleaning duties. A cleaner may be responsible for any or all of the following tasks. Tasks may also change throughout a cleaner’s employment.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CLEANER
• Bathrooms, toilets and sluice – Cleaned daily. Cleans and disinfects sinks, countertops, toilets, mirrors, floors etc. Replenishes bathroom supplies. To ensure that all soap dispensers are refilled when necessary. To ensure adequate supply of hand towels and toilet rolls at all times. Polishes metalwork, such as fixtures and fittings.
• Floors - sweeps, mops, vacuums, floors using brooms, mops and vacuum cleaners. Other floor work may be required such as scrubbing, waxing and polishing floors.
• Kitchen - cleans and disinfects sinks, countertops, tables, chairs, refrigerators, etc.
• Dusting - dusts furniture, equipment, partitions, blinds, etc.
• Waste - empties wastebaskets and recyclables and transports to refuse area.
• General duties - cleans rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture, using vacuum cleaner. Washes walls and woodwork. Washes windows, door panels, partitions, sills, etc
• To be able to work as a team under the supervision of the Housekeeper, nurse in charge or Manager.
• To ensure full privacy and dignity for each resident when entering their room.
• To ensure that no cleaning is undertaken while residents are in their room unless it is necessary to do so or that the resident has permitted that this be done.
• To ensure all Housekeeping cupboards containing cleaning fluids are kept locked at all time
• To ensure that all cleaning equipment and materials are not left unattended.
• To ensure that all Housekeeping cupboards are kept clean and tidy.
