Summary

Caretaker (GCA)

Godmanchester Community Academy is seeking an organised, proactive and dedicated School Caretaker to join our friendly and hard-working team. As the custodian of our school site, you will play a vital role in ensuring our buildings and grounds are safe, welcoming and well-presented for the 420 pupils, staff and families who use them every day.

Contract type: Permanent, 37 hours per week, Monday - Thursday 08:00am - 16:00pm and Friday 08:00am - 15:30pm, with a 30-minute unpaid break, 52 weeks per year.

Salary: Scale 4, Point 7 - 11, namely £26,403 - £28,142

About the Role

As our Caretaker, you will:
Maintain the security of the school, including intruder alarms, gates, doors and emergency call-out duties as a key holder.
Carry out daily health and safety checks, responding quickly to hazards and ensuring pupils and staff are safe at all times.
Complete statutory compliance tasks such as water hygiene checks, boiler monitoring, fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, sprinkler system checks, meter readings and playground inspections.
Undertake routine maintenance, repairs and minor refurbishment, ensuring the school remains in excellent working order.
Support the smooth running of our busy school day by managing deliveries, moving furniture, setting up halls and supporting staff where needed.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation across the site, including occasional cleaning tasks, litter picking and monitoring external bin collections.
Liaise with and supervise external contractors, ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard.
Carry out routine grounds maintenance, ensuring our outdoor spaces are safe, tidy and inviting for pupils.
Monitor stock levels of consumables and maintenance supplies, ensuring the school remains well resourced.
Build positive relationships with staff, pupils and visitors, modelling the welcoming ethos of Godmanchester Community Academy.

We are looking for someone who:

Has strong practical and maintenance skills, with confidence in tackling a wide range of basic repairs.
Can identify issues quickly and respond with practical, solution-focused actions.
Understands and applies health and safety expectations in a school setting.
Is reliable, trustworthy and able to work independently with initiative.
Can be flexible, adaptable and calm in a busy school environment.
Communicates clearly and works well as part of a supportive team.
