Applications are invited for a substantive full-time (1.0 WTE) Consultant Radiologist with an interest in thoracic and cardiac imaging. This is a new post which has arisen due to the continued growth of the cardiothoracic imaging service, the rollout of the West London Targeted Lung Health Check programme, and the implementation of the National Optimal Lung Cancer Pathway. The appointee will contribute to the lung nodule, diagnostic and cancer MDTs, and also support the weekly Screening Review Meeting.

There has been an increase in image-guided lung biopsies and therefore the appointee will be required to perform these.

It is hoped that the appointee can also contribute towards other general respiratory and specialist ILD meetings (according to specific interests and expertise).

There is also greater demand for cardiothoracic imaging which is uniquely placed to support the expanding structural and aortic services at Imperial. There is a long-established TAVI service and growth in surgical valvular and aortic interventions, so experience in these areas would also be welcomed.

The post-holderwill join a diverse and dynamic consultant team of 9 subspecialty radiologists (3 thoracic, 4 cardiothoracic and 2 cardiac radiologists)and 5 imaging cardiologists.

The appointee will have specific training and experience in all aspects of thoracic imaging (including interventional procedures) as well as in cardiac CT and CMR.

The successful candidate will have specific training and experience in all aspects of thoracic imaging. They will be able to lead clinic-radiological meetings, primarily supporting the lung cancer, screening and nodule pathways. They will be independently skilled in thoracic interventional procedures, primarily CT-guided biopsy and chest drainage. Experience of pre-operative tumour localisation and ultrasound-guided sampling would also be beneficial.

They will also support the broader range of tertiary level thoracic services at Imperial, which include pulmonary hypertension, HHT and PAVM. There will be a degree of flexibility to accommodate the successful candidate’s preferences and interests.

There is a well-established cardiac CT and MR service (including stress perfusion) which supports the range of cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical services offered at Imperial. This includes the chest pain, cardiomyopathy, inherited cardiac disease, electrophysiology, valve, and hypertension clinics. The appointee will support this across the sites. Experience of imaging in aortic root surgery together with invasive and non-invasive valve intervention will be beneficial as these services grow.

They will also be expected to contribute to the general work of the department - including general CT, MRI, US and plain film reporting - and to support departmental objectives including 7 day consultant-led reporting. There is a robust remote reporting system to help facilitate this.

At Imperial College Healthcare you can achieve extraordinary things with extraordinary people, working with leading clinicians pushing boundaries in patient care.

Become part of a vibrant team living our values - expert, kind, collaborative and aspirational. You’ll get an experience like no other and will fast forward your career.

Benefits include career development, flexible working and wellbeing, staff recognition scheme. Make use of optional benefits including Cycle to Work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan or membership options for onsite leisure facilities.

We are committed to equal opportunities and improving the working lives of our staff and will consider applications to work flexibly, part time or job share. Please talk to us at interview.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Vetting, primary reporting and specialist review of secondary and tertiary level thoracic and cardiac imaging

· Review of external imaging for specialist clinico-radiological meetings

· Independent performance of thoracic interventions - primarily CT-guided lung biopsy - to support the local diagnostic cancer pathways

· Supervision and reporting of a range of cardiac CT and MR examinations apposite to the work of a tertiary cardiac surgical centre, including adenosine and regadenoson stress perfusion

· General diagnostic body and trauma imaging, including primary evening reporting, weekly duty consultant sessions and weekend checking of provisional trainee reports

· Supervision and teaching of radiology trainees on the Imperial scheme

· Participation in departmental meetings, audit, REALM and other CPD activity
