About the Role

The County Council currently has a vacancy for a full time Career Grade Planner in a friendly team that is passionate about its people and would invest in your development. The career grade scheme offers excellent prospects for career development, with a progression plan providing a pathway for employees to advance their career as their skills, knowledge and experience develop. The post covers three grades (Assistant Planning Officer, Planning Officer and Senior Planning Officer) and we welcome applications from candidates at any of these levels.

The role is rich and varied with the rare opportunity to gain experience working across the whole planning spectrum of policy, development management and enforcement.

As a County Planning Authority there will be significant involvement in minerals and waste development which will give you insight into the resources needed for growth and development, recycling, climate change, biodiversity and habitat creation. In addition, there will be the opportunity to play a significant role in the delivery of schools, roads, housing, infrastructure, business and commercial development as the County Council invests in its own programme of building.

About You

To apply for this post, as a minimum you must have the following qualification, skills and experience:

  • A relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent higher education qualification in planning or a related discipline.
  • General awareness and knowledge of the planning system and relevant processes.
  • Good written, verbal communication and presentation skills with an ability to write accurate and detailed reports and evidence.
  • Evidence of good literacy, numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to negotiate and to develop and maintain good working relationships with people at all levels. Ability to represent the Local Authority at outside meetings.
  • Ability to make planning judgements with supervision and guidance.
  • Organised, with a demonstrable ability to manage and prioritise workloads to deal with competing demands.

You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities, and the ability to apply this to all situations.
