Summary
The Bristol Urological Institute wishes offer an exciting opportunity to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Urology to commence November 2025.
There is plenty opportunity to participate in the ongoing research in the department.
The successful candidates will be expected to participate in the service activities in the department.
It is desirable that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent.
Overseas applicants are expected to be eligible for registration with the General Medical Council and have passed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall score of 7.5. This must be clearly outlined on their application. Please check the GMC website for details.
Please note North Bristol NHS Trust will not pay any interview expenses in connection with this post.
The post is best suited for trainees at the end of their urological training or post-CCT and wish to pursue a sub-specialty career in Genito/Penile Oncology. There is also plenty opportunity to participate in the ongoing research in the department.
The post holder will participate in a 1:12 on call rota, and will be responsible for the day to day management of ward patients.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the service activities in the department.
Teaching
The Bristol Urological Institute has an active teaching programme and Fellows and Registrars are expected to actively participate in this activity.
The post holder will be available to undertake teaching sessions for medical students and junior doctors as required. In certain circumstances you may be required to cover a colleague’s clinical duties in order that they may deliver teaching sessions
Research
½ day dedicated research session is provided for all fellows/SpRs. There are several ongoing research projects and fellows are expected to participate in these projects as well as undertaking at least one audit project during their training.

• Weekly cancer multidisciplinary team meetings
• Gran Rounds – Regular postgraduate lectures
• Weekly X-ray meeting
Southmead Hospital offers a comprehensive Urology service through the Bristol Urological Institute. The Institute is a tertiary referral centre and has gained a global reputation and has become a major National and International Education Centre. The teaching programme has evolved into an increasing number of national meetings, including operative courses, and an impressive database of research publications has been achieved. The BUI has a dedicated Learning and Research Facility.
The Department has 3 dedicated theatres (including a Robotic Theatre), an Outpatients Department, a Urodynamics Service as well as an on-site Lithotripsy Service serviced by the latest Stortz Modulith SLX-F2. There is a large Intensive Care Unit and Renal Transplant Unit on site which supports the work of the Department.
The BUI has a Da Vinci Robot in a dedicated theatre to support its oncological work as the Network Centre for the South West. We are proud to be a Teaching Hospital. The Department is committed to providing a number of highly specialised services as well as routine procedures, and attracts a large number of inpatient and outpatient referrals from outside the District. All general urological services are offered, with specialist services in the following areas: Urological Cancer Management, Functional and Reconstructive Urology, Stone Disease Management and Renal Failure.
