Key responsibilities include: assisting with a variety of household chores, indoors and outdoors (gardening), dog walking, supporting daily physiotherapy exercises (as directed by a professional), helping the client access community activities, accompanying her to medical or other appointments when needed. Essential skills & qualities for the role are: an understanding of the care needs of a hemiplegic person who uses a manual wheelchair, patience, empathy and sensitivity, especially around memory or cognitive difficulties, a full driving licence and access to a suitable car (large enough for a collapsible wheelchair), confidence and physical ability to push a manual wheelchair across different terrains, good communication skills and ability to hold supportive, friendly conversation and a like for and willingness to get on with dogs. Desirable skills include: experience working with people who have experienced brain injuries, and computer, web design and social media skills (to help with an on-going project the client has been working on) If you are compassionate, practical and looking for a rewarding role supporting a disabled woman to live well day-to-day, we would love to hear from you.
