Summary
Neway International are seeking a Ground Maintenance Operative to join our client Monmouthshire County Council.
Location: Llanfoist Depot, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, NP7 9LH
Hours: 37 per week
Start Date: asap - ongoing contract.
Pay Rates: PAYE £12.85 per hour / Limited/Umbrella £16.62 per hour

The Role
As a Ground Maintenance Operative, you will play a vital role in maintaining public open spaces, verges, schools, and contracted sites to ensure a high-quality, sustainable environment. While the majority of your time will be spent on grounds maintenance activities, you may also support street services, including litter picking and responding to fly-tipping incidents. This temporary role is to cover long-term sickness absence.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake grass cutting using hand-held and ride-on equipment
Maintain horticultural features including shrub beds and bedding areas
Carry out landscaping and arboriculture tasks
Assist with grave digging and cemetery-related duties (with training provided)
Mark and maintain sports facilities
Empty litter bins and undertake litter picking across open spaces and verges
Respond to fly-tipping service requests, ensuring correct evidence procedures are followed
Ensure vehicles, plant, and machinery are maintained and operated safely
Support emergency responses (e.g. flooding, snow clearance, storm damage) as required
Candidate Requirements
Clean and current driving licence (HGV licence desirable)
Previous experience in grounds maintenance or a similar environment
Good understanding of Health and Safety practices
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Self-motivated with pride in delivering quality work
Flexible to work outside core hours, including bank holidays, when required
Willingness to undertake relevant training
Welsh language skills desirable
