Job Description
Baxterstorey is seeking a talented and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team in London, United Kingdom. As a Sous Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, creating innovative menus, and maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation.
- Assist the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and staff management
- Collaborate with the culinary team to develop and implement new menu items and seasonal specials
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen environment
- Manage inventory, place orders, and control food costs
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive work atmosphere
- Prepare and cook meals to the highest standards, maintaining consistency and quality
- Assist in menu planning, considering dietary requirements and current food trends
- Step in for the Head Chef when necessary, assuming full kitchen management responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of standard recipes and cooking techniques
- Participate in food presentation and plating to enhance visual appeal
Qualifications
- Culinary degree or diploma from a recognised institution
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a professional kitchen, ideally in a high-volume restaurant or catering setting
- Proven track record of menu development and implementation
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent knowledge of various cuisines, cooking techniques, and food trends
- Proficiency in kitchen equipment operation and maintenance
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices, with current Food Safety Certification
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Creative problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items when necessary
