Summary

Title of Post: Premises & Maintenance Technician (Multi-School)
Salary Scale: SC4 7-10 £30,288 - £31,611 (Pro rata £27,841 - £29,057)
Hours: 36 hours a week, term time only + 3 weeks (Including some evenings and weekend work)
Report to: Headteacher

Job Purpose

To ensure that the premises across three schools are safe, secure and well maintained for all pupils, staff and visitors. The Premises & Maintenance Technician will work under the direction of the Headteacher, collaborating closely with the School Business Administrator and other senior staff to carry out a wide range of maintenance, repairs and site management duties. The post holder will take a proactive approach to premises maintenance and support the effective daily operation of the schools, undertake planned maintenance, identify and recommend improvements, and provide cover for Site Technicians where required.

Key Responsibilities

Security and Safety

• Maintain vigilance in identifying and reporting health and safety concerns across the site, including outdoor areas.
• Ensure a safe working environment in line with statutory requirements and school policies.

Maintenance of Premises and Repairs

• Carry out repairs and maintenance across all three schools, including basic plumbing, carpentry, joinery and decoration (e.g. replacing locks, fittings, lightbulbs, plugs).
• Maintain an up-to-date and accurate asset register for all school machinery and equipment, ensuring records are reviewed regularly, compliance information is logged, and servicing or replacement needs are identified and reported promptly.
• Support the upkeep of specialist areas such as water fountains, sand pits and ponds.
• Remove debris from drains, gullies and external areas as required.
• Monitor the defects log and maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance activities.
• Build, assemble and move furniture as needed.
• Undertake painting and decorating tasks, such as touching up damaged surfaces.
• Conduct grounds maintenance including grass cutting, pruning, clearing and weeding.
• Conduct post-contractor cleaning and checks during school closure periods.
• Attend monthly site reviews with the cleaning contractor.
• Develop an understanding of heating systems, report first-line faults and ensure routine maintenance is completed.
• Ensure all power tools and mechanical equipment are inspected prior to use and PAT-tested as required.
• Assist the School Business Administrator with arranging statutory compliance checks and reporting on remedial works identified.
• Obtain and compare quotes for repairs, maintenance and small projects.
• Act as a key holder for all three sites.

• Support portage duties, moving deliveries and equipment as required
• To travel between school sites as necessary

Health and Safety
• The post holder will be expected to observe safe working practices in carrying out the required duties in line with the Health and Safety Policy.
• Adhere to LDBS Trust policies including Lone Working Policy, Staff Code of Conduct and Keeping Children Safe in Education Policy
• Ensure compliance with COSHH regulations
