JOB DESCRIPTION – Functional Director of Operations (SOC 1139)
Job Title: Functional Director of Operations
Department: Operations and Business Services
Location: Anderson Road, Southampton
Reports To: Director of Operations
Purpose of the Role
To lead and manage Smithly Ltd’s operational, logistical, administrative and compliance functions.
The role supports strategic growth, ensures regulatory compliance, and directs core business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead company operations across logistics, administration, HR compliance, and business functions
Define operational strategy, KPIs and performance standards
Manage operational budgets and functional planning
Direct contract performance (logistics partners, subcontractors, internal staff)
Ensure compliance with HR, transport, and regulatory standards
Oversee fleet operations, delivery efficiency and service quality
Prepare business performance reports for senior leadership
Lead business development initiatives and operational improvement
Provide functional leadership to operations staff
Skills & Experience
Senior management experience within operations, logistics, business administration or transport
Strong understanding of HR, compliance and operations leadership
Ability to lead and scale business processes
Excellent decision-making, communication and organisational skills
