We are currently looking for reliable and highly motivated individual to Skipper our vessel the Mowi Skye. The vessel is a 1907 LUV 19m by 7m landing utility vessel powered by two volvo D9 main engines and has full accommodation and galley facilities on board.

The vessel will provide a valuable service to the Company’s seawater sites across the west of Scotland, predominantly within our Skye region. The role is challenging, but ultimately very rewarding and can lead to a variety of fulfilling career progression opportunities.

If you are ambitious and motivated and want to work with a likeminded team, then this is the role for you. This post is offered on a full time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will be required to work a two week on / two week off rotational basis.

About the job

This role is a crucial part of the operations process. We need our employees to strive for continuous improvement. The job includes, but is not limited to:

  • Maintaining the vessel to a high standard, ensuring full compliance with MCA workboat code and certification
  • Working closely with Farm Managers to provide the most efficient service between sites
  • Ensuring safe working practices at all times
  • Maintaining and managing the vessel's engines, machinery, and equipment.
  • Harvesting and passive grading
  • Ensuring high bio-security levels are maintained and records are kept up-to-date
  • Other general farm duties as required

Ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will have an interest in the aquaculture industry and be willing to learn. They will be willing to expand their understanding and work hard on the job. The successful candidate will have:

  • Appropriate certification for operating vessels up to 24 meters, both day and night
  • RYA Commercial Endorsement or STCW certification
  • IOSH Managing Safely Certification
  • Net washing experience
  • ML5 or ENG1 medical
  • Work flexibly to meet the demands of the job
  • Positive approach to this type of work
  • Drivers licence is essential. No driving licence? We can help you with the cost of lessons.
