36 hours per week, 52.14 weeks per year, fixed term until 31 August 2026

Please note that although a base centre has been given, the post holder will be required to work between Jim Walker Partnership Centre (Bathgate) and Strathbrock Partnership Centre (Broxburn). You could also be asked to cover any of our buildings within West Lothian.


Customer and Community Services are looking to recruit a Customer Service Officer. We require an outgoing, confident, hardworking and reliable person who want to succeed in customer services. The post holder will work as a member of a customer focussed team delivering a range of tasks and services in our Libraries, Community Centres and Partnership Centres including:



  • Dealing with customer information service enquiries

  • Operating a Customer Appointment Phone Line

  • Responding to customer needs

  • Work in the libraries delivering and arrange customer events (eg Bookbug, author visits)

  • Working on Reception

  • Record and provide statistical information as required.

  • Use a variety of council databases

  • Assist the Team Manager with a range of Community Facility duties.


You will assist in meeting and exceeding customer expectations, working and supporting the local community within legislation and adhering to West Lothian Council policies and procedures.


You will be required to demonstrate that you can work within a busy, changing environment, respond to the needs of customers in a helpful and proactive way and demonstrate a willingness to learn and evolve with the service as it changes and develops.


This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council
