Principal Educational Psychologist, Stornoway (0268)
35 hours per week, Permanent Position
£81,027 per annum, inclusive of £2,859 Distant Islands Allowance per annum

The Principal Educational Psychologist is responsible for the overall strategic direction, management and quality assurance of the Educational Psychology Service in the Western Isles. In managing the Service, the Principal Educational Psychologist will carry out such duties of the post as the council may require for the implementation of its statutory duties.

You will be required to assess and report on the psychological and educational needs for children, young people and young adults up to 25 years of age (the client group) and providing advice to teachers and parents. You will effectively manage all allocated resources including finance, equipment/material, information and time. Your role will be to direct the Psychological Service and formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate its aims and objectives.

It is essential that you have knowledge of legislation relating to additional support needs in Scotland and the recent and current developments in Education Psychology relating to support for all learners particularly children with additional support needs.

You will be able to work collaboratively with other professionals across the Team Around the Child and be able to support strategic work within Education and Children’s Services and with local and national partners such as NHS Western Isles and Education Scotland.

You must have a post-graduate degree in Educational Psychology and be registered as an Educational Psychologist with the HCPC. You must also have at least 3 years’ experience as an Educational Psychologist in a UK local authority setting.

A current full UK driving licence is essential.

This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme as a legal requirement of a regulated role with Children (Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme - mygov.scot).

Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade.
