Summary
To provide specialist neuropsychological and psychologicalassessments of neurology patients, based upon theappropriate use, interpretation and integration of highlycomplex psychological data from a variety of sourcesincluding neuropsychological and psychological tests, selfreport measures, rating scales, direct and indirectstructured observations and semi-structured interviews withpatients, family members and others involved in the clientscare. To formulate, develop and implement plans for the formalpsychological treatment and/or management of patientsneuropsychological and/or mental health problems, basedupon an appropriate conceptual framework of the patientsproblems, and employing methods of proven efficacy,across the full range of care settings. To be responsible for implementing a range ofpsychological interventions for individuals, carers, familiesand groups, within and across teams. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment optionstaking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models,and highly complex factors concerning historical anddevelopmental processes that have shaped the individual,family or group. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for theassessment, treatment and discharge of clients whoseproblems are managed by psychologically based standardcare plans. To provide highly specialised psychological advice,guidance and consultation to other professionalscontributing directly to clients formulation, diagnosis andtreatment plans. To ensure that all relevant professionals have access to apsychologically based framework for understanding andcare of clients of the service. To undertake risk assessment and risk management forindividual clients and to provide general advice to otherprofessionals on psychological aspects of risk assessmentand management with reference to deliberate self- harm. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive mannerinformation concerning the assessment, formulation andtreatment plans of patients under their care and to monitorand evaluate progress during both uni- and multidisciplinary care.
