We are seeking compassionate and reliable Porters to join our team at Great Western Hospital. Reporting to the Portering Supervisors, you will play a key role in providing a safe, dignified, and efficient internal transport service for patients, as well as delivering high-quality support to staff, visitors, and departments. As an ambassador for Serco and the hospital, you will demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and uphold our CARE values.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients between wards and departments using wheelchairs, trolleys, beds, or by walking.
- Move equipment, furniture, and other essential items to support smooth hospital operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and safe use of portering equipment, including wheelchairs and trolleys.
- Support emergency, evacuation, and security procedures as required.
- Report faults, hazards, incidents, or near-misses promptly in line with Health & Safety and Infection Control policies.
- Communicate professionally with the Helpdesk, Dispatch, and Supervisors when responding to tasks.
- Maintain a clean, tidy appearance and adhere to uniform and hygiene standards.
- Adapt to new technologies and undertake any other reasonable duties to support efficient service delivery.
Key Performance Expectations
- Average of 4 completed tasks per hour.
- Respond to allocated tasks within 5 minutes on average.
Role Requirements
- Ability to work in challenging or sensitive environments.
- Comfortable with manual handling, including prolonged periods of standing, pushing, and pulling.
- Willingness to support emergency situations and perform duties beyond the usual scope when required.
