Summary

School Caretaker (Level 2) - Birchgrove Comprehensive School, Swansea.Salary: Grade 4 SCP (5-6) (£25,583 – £25,989 pro-rata) - Actual starting salary £12,504 (the salary stated with be subject to a term time only adjustment as the commencement of the employment is after the start of the academic year).Hours of work - 20 hours per week/41 weeks per annum, which includes 2 weeks of the school summer holidays. The hours are Monday-Thursday 2.00 p.m. until 6.15 p.m. and Friday 2.00 p.m. until 6.00 p.m. The position is temporary for 1 year in the first instance.Start date - 5th January 2026About the Role:We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and skilled Caretaker (Level 2) to join our team at Birchgrove Comprehensive School, a thriving and caring Comprehensive school in Swansea. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.Key Responsibilities:Carry out general maintenance and repairs across the school site.Ensure the security of the premises, including opening and locking up the school.Monitor and maintain heating, lighting, and other facilities.Support health and safety compliance, including regular checks and reporting.Assist with setting up rooms and moving furniture/equipment as required.Liaise with contractors and suppliers when necessary.Essential Skills & Experience:Previous experience in a caretaking or maintenance role.Practical skills in basic repairs and maintenance.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Good understanding of health and safety regulations.Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends if required.Desirable:Relevant qualifications in building maintenance or health and safety.Experience working in a school or similar environment.What We Offer:A supportive and friendly working environment.Opportunities for training and professional development.Local Government Pension Scheme.How to Apply:Please see the attached information pack for information on how to apply.
