Neway International are seeking a Waste Minimisation/Recycling Assistant to join our client Carmarthenshire County Council, based at Parc Myrddin.
Location: Parc Myrddin, Richmond Terrace, Carmarthen, SA31 1HQ
Hours: 37 per week (09:00 – 17:30, Monday – Friday, with occasional evenings/weekends for events)
Start Date: 01/12/2025
Pay Rates: £13.26 PAYE / £17.15 Umbrella
About the Client
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Waste and Environmental Services division provides kerbside recycling schemes and a range of reuse and recycling initiatives to households across the county. The team is committed to promoting sustainability, reducing waste, and supporting Welsh Government Waste Strategy objectives.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Waste Minimisation and Recycling team. As a Recycling Assistant, you will support the development and delivery of promotional elements of the Waste Strategy, helping to increase recycling participation and improve performance across Carmarthenshire. The role involves hybrid working (minimum two days per week in the office) and occasional travel to other office locations.
Key Responsibilities
Support the delivery of recycling and waste minimisation initiatives across the county.
Update digital content on waste website pages and respond to social media enquiries.
Assist in identifying areas with low recycling participation and implement targeted education and awareness campaigns.
Handle complaints and enquiries from residents via phone, email, and face-to-face, ensuring customer satisfaction.
Maintain accurate records, spreadsheets, and data monitoring systems.
Assist in scheduling staff work, liaising with colleagues, and recording outcomes.
Participate in community events and promotional activities, occasionally outside standard hours.
Promote the ethos of reduce, reuse, recycle in all interactions.
Candidate Requirements
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with confidence in dealing with residents.
Ability to use Excel spreadsheets and create new ones for data capture and monitoring.
Team player with excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
Interest in recycling, waste minimisation, and environmental sustainability.
Understanding of Carmarthenshire recycling schemes and awareness of Welsh Government Waste Strategy.
Basic knowledge of Welsh language or willingness to achieve conversational level (support provided).
Flexibility to accommodate occasional evening/weekend work and varied shift patterns.
Driving licence desirable due to potential travel requirements.
